Texas A&M Football Recruiting Analysis: Kellen Mond

Texas A&M Football 2017 Match Preview Prediction and Players: Ah yes, here we go again: another discussion on who’s going to be the next starting QB for the Aggies. Year in and year out this conversation comes up as the next football season approaches. The names change, but the debate rages on.

After Ryan Tannehill left, we all assumed it would be now Dallas Cowboys safety Jameill Showers. Of course, Johnny Manziel took over instead. Then he left and it was a toss up between Kenny “Trill” Hill and Kyle Allen. Hill transferred to TCU. The following season, Allen and Texas High School football legend Kyler Murray dueled it out. Both of those gentlemen transferred at the end of that season, Allen to Houston and Murray to Oklahoma.

Trevor Knight actually had his spot locked in this past season. But now that he’s signed with the Arizona Cardinals, the question is back in Aggieland. Who’s going to lead the 12th Man to victory this year?

Texas A&M Football 2017

Most people have it down to a pair of QBs. Some may think it’s senior Jake Hubenak, others think redshirt freshman Nick Starkel will take the snaps. However, there are some free spirits and outside the box thinkers that think it may be the new kid in town slingin’ the rock for the Aggies. For the last five seasons, Texas A&M has sent its teams to places like these across the Southeast after years of traveling to familiar destinations like Norman, Lubbock and Austin. When the new fall semester begins in College Station, it will mark the university’s sixth year as a member of the SEC. The A&M football team has stayed away from the campuses of old Big 12 rivals, especially the one that wears burnt orange.

Saturday marks the five-year anniversary of A&M’s transition into the SEC.
Next week, A&M will be one of the 14 representatives at SEC media days in Hoover, Ala. The Aggies are still the only conference school to hail for the Lone Star State and the most westward campus the conference.
Through five years, A&M has experienced some of the biggest highs in program history. The Aggies, led by Heisman-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel, debuted in the SEC and finished fifth in the final AP poll.

It is weird to think a four-overtime game ranks No. 10 on this list. This one symbolized Texas A&M’s shameful 2011 season (its last in the Big 12). The Aggies were in the Top 10 to start the season, but they blew several half times leads en route to a 7-6 record. Mike Sherman’s team squandered a 31-21 lead in the fourth quarter. It was also a breakout game for KSU quarterback Collin Klein, who rushed for five touchdowns and became a Heisman finalist the next season.

Following a 3-9 season and with a new coach, Auburn wasn’t expecting much in 2013. This game jumpstarted the Tigers’ magical run to an appearance in the NCAA Championship game. Although Johnny Manziel missed time because of a shoulder injury, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner amassed more than 500 yards of total offense. Mike Evans somehow topped Manziel’s performance, registering 287 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 11 catches. How different is A&M’s season if the referees call a horse-collar at the end?
